BSL Clans and Players—The Code

The following guidance is the result of some very difficult discussions. BSL clans are not like other clans. We are not like mass recruiting clans where new players are thrown into the machine and spat out when the clan doesn't think they do enough. We are different because we want our clanmates to enjoy the game. It does not matter that we are different ages, races, nationalities, genders or, in some cases, species (at least two of us identify as cats, one as a barbary ape, and whatever Slog is. Possibly yeti).

This code explains the clan requirements. It is a condition of clan membership that players understand and adhere to them. If you cannot agree to them, then you must leave. We will be sorry that you leave, but… Clan, player, Kingdom.

Agreement of the code is a condition of membership of any BSL clan.

There is a chat—currently called ++BSLCODE++ in which you must post ‘+1’ from every account you have in BSL to signify agreement. Those accounts not agreeing will be removed. From the clan

THE CODE

1	Be considerate to other clan members. Please restrict profanity, 'adult' subjects, etc, to the Irish Bar.	We may include in our membership those who will be offended by this material, so people have to 'opt in' to see it
2	Please complete the minimum number of vaults per day. This is measured weekly as a total. Completing the highest level of vault that you have the resources for helps both you and the clan..	This is the basic level of support we each give the clan daily. If you have a 'silver alt', requirements, or any part of them, can be met by one account for both
3	If you are going to be absent for more than three days, let someone know. Ensure your shield will not expire, and you have not left portals open whenever you exit the game. There is a guide on how to be 'VOID'	Accidents happen, but your losses are also our losses, as materials taken and troops killed cannot be used to grow your account and others
4	Some activities are mandatory unless you have a good reason. The following are mandatory: à Build a vault for Rise of the Ancients à Make at least one attack on a summoned Guardian à Participate in clan events such as CP runs unless there is a good reason. Some game events are also mandatory, such as seasonal events where clan rewards are good. à Participate in the Olympus event and reach, as a minimum, 60% of the basic target in each section (where targets are defined) or any other calculation that the clan may use from time to time à Gain chests from at least 5 crypts on average daily over the week	Mandatory activities raise resources for players, help growth and increase individual and clan might. They are both the reason for being in a clan, and the easiest reason to measure. Some events measure the clan might or player might to divide participants into classes. If the clan might is measured and members do not participate, the challenge is harder for those that do. If you are unable to join an event where the clan might is measured, you must temporarily leave before the start and you can rejoin afterwards. If you choose not to, you will be removed before the event ends and your return is not guaranteed.
5	You must follow the kingdom's rules of engagement (ROE). We are a law-abiding clan with a good reputation and relationship with other clans in the kingdom	The ROE is designed to enable players in a kingdom to have an understanding of what behaviours are acceptable. We fully support the outlawing of players who repeatedly or deliberately break the rules.

THE CODE

Alternative Taxation and Rewards

The clan has standard policies for the distribution of prizes, and this involves an element of taxation to help smaller players grow. You may change how you pay your tax at least twice a year and the whole clan can change their preference then. Those dates will be announced each time to the clan. If you leave the clan and return, your last tax choice remains until the next scheduled choice.

6	Prizes for a clan placing in a top position are allocated to the clan and are distributed according to clan guidelines. As an alternative to your clan competition prizes being taxed by the clan for growth, you can pay tax weekly in silver to the nominated bank. This is calculated as (Capitol level /2 then multiplied by 1M). Paying tax in silver will exclude your Olympus fragments from being taxed, and your share of clan dragon coins from being taxed. Named dragon coin prizes, rather than prizes to the clan, are not taxed.	Guidelines for Clan Dragon coin prizes: Coins are divided equally amongst active participants in the event that earned them, with those achieving results far below expectation being excluded. This does not apply to individual awards paid into the clan for specific players. Guidelines for Olympus prizes: Total clan fragments are divided into two parts and are awarded in two ways. 50% awarded based on the score that players achieved in the event, and 50% is divided equally between all clan members completing the minimum participation. So each player should receive an earned score element and a clan shared element. Whilst this slightly reduces the fragments that go to the most productive players, it helps the clan level up and be better, so that second places become first places more frequently. Other event prizes follow one of these two approaches. Please check which before the competition starts if this makes a difference to your participation. Unlike most other clans, we do not insist on players having 'premium' accounts or a 'Golden Pass' for the Triumphal challenge. We choose to help the majority of our players as best as we can, even if this means the best-performing accounts earn less than they could elsewhere. However, please see our tax policy.
7	We have a clan leader and the Superiors are their deputies. They have the authority to expel you from the clan. We also have Officers who tend to lead from the front and deputies for the Superiors. Great sources of help. Please respond to any messages you receive from them.	Ejection is not a measure we take lightly. It has never been done without a good reason, and nor will it be. In the case of not rendering enough clan support, players are always warned.
8	Do not start fights with other players or clans. Do not try to conduct clan diplomacy, request outlaw status or make promises on behalf of the clan unless you have been authorised to do this. Sometimes it may be against our interests, and we don't like to break agreements.	We have a leader who is expert at starting wars, and we like to plan them, rather than be dragged into them, or wake up to the smell of burning walls. We have had incidents of people trying to declare all sorts of things in our name and that is not how this clan works
9	Enjoy the game. Be chatty. Be careful of what you post where.	We're all gamers here. It's meant to be fun. The only person that should be doing things like triggering a war with the 6th biggest clan in the game is the leader, and she can call them 'moronic pussies' without any help. She has proved this.
10	Silver Alts or Alts	We do accept alts in BSL, but you need to declare your main and other accounts if they are in other clans and kingdoms. If you have a secondary account in the clan, the requirements can be met in conjunction with the main. If your secondary account cannot meet the requirements, there is a convenient clan for it. OEM.
